How to become a mentee?
Find out how your OC does it.
OCG, Fundraising
Email your Mentoring Programme Manager to signal your interest in becoming a mentee.
OCA, OCB
The Self-Appraisal is a tool used to clarify your development goals (so please be honest and self-critical). Complete it and share it with the Mentoring & Coaching Program Manager.
Become aware of the strengths and areas of improvement that are yours for the job you’re about to take. These are expressed in prescribed competencies. It lays the basis for a dialogue around the relationship with the Mentoring & Coaching Program Manager & your potential mentor.
This Self-Appraisal is intended only for the mentoring program and has no impact on your professional career with MSF. Download below the Self-Appraisal matching your profile:
HoM, FCM, MedCo, HRCo, FinCo, LogCo, SupplyCo, PC, PMR, PDM, WatsanCo, PharmaCo, LTL.
OCBA
Fill in Field Support Request Form OCBA, and send it to your pool manager or the OCBA Mentoring Programme Managers.
OCP
To get started, send an email at: ocp.mentoring.coaching@newyork.msf.org
And we will contact you to schedule a call and explore your needs and interest together to help you find your mentor and answer all your questions about the programme.
To prepare for our conversation, we invite you to take the online introduction course to mentoring and coaching. This will help you learn more about the programme and reflect on your needs and objectives.
You can find it here: Mentoring and Coaching at MSF
You can also find more information about mentoring and coaching at OCP in the Mentoring & Coaching offer booklet
Intersectional FieldComms
Fill-in the self-appraisal corresponding to the position (FCo, FCM, RCC) you’re about to take and share it with the mentoring programme manager.
Mentoring Tools
There is an introduction course to mentoring & coaching. It is open to all but was designed with mentees and coachees in mind.
The toolbox/Excel sheet with exercises can be found here.
The relationship tool is the Digital Logbook. Check the introduction video, the one about the Mutual Agreement, and the one about the Dialog Sessions.
Becoming a MSF Mentor?
For a better understanding of the Mentor’s role please refer to this document. It describes the role of the mentor, skills, experience, and commitement that MSF is looking for. You will also find the requirements (experience) and MSF’s mentoring guiding principles.
To apply to become a mentor, Click Here.
OCP mentors have extensive MSF experience in the same role as their mentees. You may currently be on a national, international or HQ contract, or may even no longer be working with MSF. We continuously recruit mentors for all positions as managers in a project or coordination team (positions levels 9 to 15).

Code of practice
This is a resource for both Mentors and Mentees to refer to. It sets out the attitude and behaviours that are conducive to a successful learning relationship. We encourage you to read it and to discuss it with your Mentoring Programme Manager and with your Mentor/Mentee.
